What does healthy living mean? Does it mean someone who doesn’t smoke, is it a healthy weight or is it someone who eats healthy and exercises or could it be all three!! I believe a good example of healthy living is someone who makes small changes to making there life better. it could be taking more steps during the day, adding fruit to your cereal, having an extra glass of water…these are just a few ways you can start living healthy without drastic changes.


Americans today have a lack of activity and the brits are moving down this road. This is due to services becoming more convenient, for example online shopping.  Most people think exercise has to be vigorous in order to make it worth while. Infact a little movement is better than no movement and the more you do, the healthier you’ll be.

Here are guidelines for improving health, the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) recommends these:

Frequency: 5-7 days a week

Intensity: 50-90% of max heart rate

Time: 30 minutes duration accumulated during the day

Type: Rythmetic movements (gardening, washing car e.t.c.)

Just adding a little movement to your life can:

  • ·Reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes
  • ·Improve joint stability
  • ·Increase and improve range of movement
  • ·Help maintain flexibility as you age
  • ·Maintain bone mass
  • ·Prevent osteoporosis and fractures
  • ·Improve mood and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression
  • ·Enhance self esteem
  • ·Improve memory in elderly people
  • ·Reduce stress

Simple Ways to Move Your Body

I want you all to try this you can start loosing weight now by just making a few extra moves to your life. This is ideal If you cant be bothered to go to the gym or follow a detailed program, by starting small and seeing results come this might encourage you to build enough confidence to start a more vigorous workout. The way you should see it is every move you take you are burning  more calories which equals a healthier lifestyle.

Here are some ways of making your life more active:

  • ·Walk more. Look for small ways to walk more. Walking to the next bus stop, taking the stairs in the tube station, shopping mall or car park. Take the dog for an extra outing each day.
  • ·Do some chores. Shoveling snow, working in the garden, raking leaves, sweeping the floor, washing car.
  • ·Pace while you talk. For every second your on the phone , keep your self moving or even do some cleaning while gabbing.
  • ·At work. If you work at a office make an effort to get up every hour to stretch and go for a quick walk round your desk.
